Dear Alumni and Friends,
Homecoming Celebration 2021 at SSU is right around the corner. The theme this year is “Reunited – We Are One SSU.”
Savannah State University (SSU) is preparing for alumni from across the world to return to campus October 10-16, to celebrate and engage face-to-face where the “Savannah Meets the Sea!” As Covid-19 is still ever present, we are monitoring the situation closely to provide measures that will keep us all safe.
Towards that end, the SSU Parade has been cancelled. As updates are made and plans are finalized, we will be happy to bring them to your attention as both the campus and the Savannah State University National Alumni Association (SSUNAA) Homecoming Committees are working hard to provide a safe and joyful return back home for all alumni and friends.
That said, the SSUNAA has planned a host of events and activities that are certain to help us feel at home–here on the sweeping marshes of our illustrious campus.
Just know, although Homecoming may look and feel a little different this year, it is nonetheless, more special due to what we have all experienced this past year and half. We look forward to seeing you all back home soon!
Continue to stay safe and stay engaged,
Joyce W. Davis, SSUNAA Homecoming Chair

Dear Savannah State Alumni Community,
Homecoming at the “University by the Sea” is a special time for all alumni of Savannah State University. It affords us the opportunity to renew our bonds with our fellow alumni, build bonds with current students, and create bonds with alumni supporters from around the world. Our commitment as alumni of this great university is to provide her with the necessary and steadfast support she needs to thrive. This support is extended to all administration, students, faculty, and staff. We are committed to keeping these individuals supported and safe from any unnecessary harm or danger.
Based upon the recommendation of the Savannah State University National Alumni Association’s (SSUNAA) Homecoming Committee, and the approval of the Executive Board some of this year’s alumni homecoming activities will be held hybrid (virtual and in-person). The events that will be sponsored by SSUNAA are listed below.
This is not a decision that we have taken lightly. This compassionate, data driven decision, was made out of an abundance of caution for the entire Savannah State community.
In the coming weeks, SSUNAA will send out communication with more detailed instructions and the links needed to access all of the virtual events! Again, homecoming at the “University by the Sea” is a special time for all alumni of Savannah State University. The decision to transition from an in person celebration to a virtual celebration was not a decision that was taken lightly. This compassionate, data driven decision, was made out of an abundance of caution for the entire Savannah State community.
Please know that the health, safety, and well-being of our entire Savannah State University alumni community is my #1 priority. Thank you for your understanding and flexibility as we maneuver together during this global crisis as ONE Tiger family.
In your service,
Harold N. Washington
